Stand up paddle classes

Stand up paddling lessons for all abilities and fitness levels (no experience necessary, just a willingness to have fun and give it a go).

Our head instructor, Cecily, is an experienced paddler, lover of the water and is passionate about introducing others to this form of fitness and water activity.  She specialises in teaching fundamental paddling and board skills, safety on and off the water and is a qualified Surfing Australia SUP instructor and community surf life saver.

Lessons are professionally run, personal, fun, supportive and inclusive and are held in small groups  on premium Red Paddle Co boards , helping you build confidence and enjoyment quickly. Yes! You will stand up during your lesson – the right techniques and encouragement make all the difference.  We choose locations to give you the best experience and your safety and enjoyment is our priority.

What to expect:

Discover how SUP can improve your fitness, build your core strength and improve your balance and flexibility.  It’s a fun and effective workout on water.

Lesson areas covered:

  • Warm up and cool down

  • Carrying your board

  • Knee - paddling to standing

  • Turning, stopping and prone paddling – very important when conditions on the water change

  • Paddling with efficiency and correct posture, enabling you to build distance and fitness and avoid unnecessary wear on your body

  • How to read the conditions and weather, prior to and during your paddle and time on the water

  • Paddling technique and options for differing water conditions

  • Choosing a SUP just for you and your goals

  • How to care for your SUP

  • For experienced paddlers hone your technique and skills

Booking Options:

  • Beginner lesson – SUP intro and confidence on the water

  • Intermediate lesson – Paddled before ? Hone and develop skills for different conditions – experience a faster, more challenging paddle

  • Clinics – Friendship groups, sporting groups or families

  • Sup tours – views of the bay (sunrise or sunset)

Melbourne’s beautiful bay is a wonderland and fun water playground - the changing scenery and varying conditions keep you in the moment adding a touch of mindfulness to your day.

Our group sessions for 4-6 paddlers are generally based  in Half Moon Bay, Black Rock, or Mothers Beach, Mornington. However with Private sessions (2-4 paddlers) we have more flexibility on locations to suit your requirements, conditions dependent of course.


SUP lesson season runs from late October  through to end April (weather and conditions permitting).
